About Feather

Welcome to Beads of a Feather Website.  Tina Feather Souilliard began a passion for beading at 12 years old as a Camp Fire Girl in Alburtis Pa. Her first beading project was a seed beaded headband made on a metal loom.
On the east coast, Hobby Land and Tandy Leather were a couple of the only sources for beads. S
he moved to Montana at 17 and was introduced to bead shops. It was there, in Montana, where the dream to be a bead store owner began. Tina made jewelry out of elk horn, turquoise, coral, and anything she could find of the earth. Liquid silver was popular, as were macramé cords and waxed linen for macramé jewelry. Being self taught from books, she took an interest in embroidery and wool weaving on loom.  She returned east and made very large double and triple macramé plant hangers, large hanging glass tables with lighting units in them, baby swings, shelves, and wall hangings out of macramé.

In the 90’s she was involved in making Renaissance gowns and bead embellishments. She designed custom bridal jewelry and custom bridal headpieces (Crowns), and dabbled in making her own clay beads.

In 2000 she began preparing the way to have the bead shop dream while finishing a Bachelors Degree at Penn State, and working as an Operations Manager.  The first store started in her dining room, where beads hung from wall to wall. In the center of the room there was one long table to work at. In May of 2006 she graduated from Penn State, and opened the current store front in Kutztown in June. She then quit her corporate job of 27 years in August.

Tina has many skills and teaches a large variety of techniques, such as; seed beading, loom work, macramé, wire working, and basic beading classes.  She offers continued support to anyone who takes a class at Beads Of A Feather.

“This has been the most incredible journey of my life. I’m blessed with so many really great customers and friends.   I want to thank all my current customers and my family for believing in me and supporting this dream.”
